A filter for liquid filtration consisting of two horizontal filter chambers formed by a lower filtrate chamber (2) which supports a moveable, pervious filter belt (6) on the upper surface and an upper chamber (1) formed by a vertically moveable lid (7) pressing onto the band. The whole is enveloped by a pressure resisting shell, the interior of which (3) can be filled and pressurized by a suitable gas to prevent the ingress of ambient air into the filter and by controlling the pressure differential between the shell interior (3) and the interior of the filtrate chamber (2) to prevent escape of liquid and other material from the interior of the filter chambers into the interior of the shell (3) during the filtration operation despite much higher pressure differentials being applied between the interior of the top chamber (1) and the interior of the filtrate chamber (2). |
