CONSTITUTION:A vehicle controller records power consumption of a motor, etc., until a charging state of a battery (SOC) reaches a generation starting point (a) (200). The controller calculates mean power consumption Wa based on recorded power consumption (200), and calculates a generation starting point a=a0+k(Wa-Wa0 based on the calculated mean power consumption Wa (204). The controller applies a command to a generation controller to generate an engine-driven generator with Wa (208) when SOC of the battery reaches the point (a) (206). In order to generate in response to the traveling state and to set the point (a) to a high value when the consumption Wa is large, the battery is not deeply discharged even in a state in which power consumption of the motor is large to increase its life to a long period.
