MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM AND ITS PRODUCTION

摘要

PURPOSE:To produce a magnetic recording medium with a carbon protective layer hardly causing crushing even when a high hardness slider material is used and having satisfactory CSS resistance. CONSTITUTION:A carbon protective layer is formed using sputtering gas mixed with a prescribed amt. or more of methane. In this carbon protective layer, the percentage of diamond bonds is higher than that of graphite bonds and polymer-like bonds exist moderately. The objective magnetic recording medium (case 3) with such a carbon protective layer exhibits very high durability in a CSS cycle test.
