PURPOSE:To obtain a highly reliable optical disc and its manufacture wherein a glass protecting film which can be vitrified at low temperatures is formed. CONSTITUTION:An optical disc 1 is constituted of a reflecting film 2 of aluminum or the like, a substrate 3 formed of a transparent resin or the like, a glass protecting film 4 for preventing the oxidation of the reflecting film 2 and the deterioration of properties of the substrate 3, etc. In order to form the glass protecting film 4, a hydrolyzable organic metallic compound (for example, metallic alkoxide) is hydrolyzed, dehydrated and condensed in a solution of water and an organic solvent or a solution of an organic solvent alone in the presence of boron ions and halogen ions, and then applied onto the base material of the optical disc 1, and vitrified at 20 deg.C or lower temperatures. |
