PURPOSE:To increase the track density of an optical recording medium by alternately arranging information tracks respectively composed of mark strings which can be detected by utilizing the polarized-state variation of reflected light/transmitted light and the quantity variation of the reflected light/transmitted light. CONSTITUTION:Information tracks composed of mark strings which can be detected by utilizing the polarized-state variation of reflected light and/or transmitted light and information tracks composed of mark strings which can be detected by utilizing the quantity variation of the reflected and/or transmitted light are alternately arranged. Since the title recording medium is constituted in such a way, the information on adjacent tracks does not cause cross-talk when the quantity variation of the light corresponding to the polarized-state variation is detected at the time of reading out information from the information tracks composed of mark strings which can be detected by utilizing the polarized-state variation of the reflected and/or transmitted light. In addition, no cross-talk occurs when the total quantity variation of all polarized light components is detected at the time of reading out information from the information tracks composed of mark strings which can be detected by utilizing the quantity variation of the light. |
