PURPOSE:To make it possible to eliminate the edge emphasis in an unnecessary direction by a simple circuitry by determining the presence or absence of the edge emphasis and the direction based on a binary pattern. CONSTITUTION:Image data to be inputted in a memory 1 regards the output value from a CCD as plural bits serial image data after a digital conversion is performed. In an edge direction selection part 20, the presence or absence and the direction of an edge emphasis is detected by the pattern matching after a binary processing is performed.
