PURPOSE:To accurately maintain the positional relationship with an already recorded track and to match the previous track in position even at the time of finishing an edit by deciding timing for starting recording a track at the time of editing based on a signal for the track itself. CONSTITUTION:A pilot sample signal S4 for instructing timing for sampling a pilot signal and a timing signal S2 for instructing recording positions of 2nd and downward information areas 22a-22c to be recorded with an information signal S1 are generated based on a synchronizing block and a tracking pilot signal recorded in a 1st information area 21 formed in the lead of a recording track. Then, the pilot signal is sampled from an adjacent track by the pilot ample signal S4 to perform tracking control, and afterward, the information signal S1 is recorded in the 2nd and downward information areas 22a-22c by the timing signal S2.
