RARE EARTH ELEMENT DOPED OPTICAL FIBER

PURPOSE:To make a gain dependant on a polarized wave and to adjust the gain in a state of an optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:An absolute single plane-of-polarization reserved optical fiber whose X polarized wave and Y polarized wave have different bending loss characteristics is manufactured from an elliptical jacket type plane-of- polarization reserved optical fiber. The combined length is 0.8mm-1.1mm. Er is doped in a core section of the optical fiber. A part of the Er-doped optical fiber is shaped into a coil of a bending radius between 10mm and 50mm. By changing the bending radius of the optical fiber within this range, a gain of only the Y polarized wave can be adjusted with a gain of the X polarized wave being kept constant.
