PURPOSE:To reduce the total number of pulse transformers and miniaturize a discharge lamp lighting device lighting an optional discharge lamp among multiple discharge lamps. CONSTITUTION:A pulse transformer T common to all discharge lamps and pulse transformers T1, T2 corresponding to individual discharge lamps are concurrently driven by an ignitor IG to selectively light an optional discharge lamp. The pulse transformer T common to all discharge lamps generates the high-voltage pulse voltage lower than the starting voltage of the discharge lamps. An optional discharge lamp can be selectively started, the withstand voltage can be lowered by the division of the pulse transformers, miniaturization is attained, and the cost can be reduced. The pulse transformer common to multiple discharge lamps can be concurrently used, the number of the pulse transformers can be reduced, and further miniaturization and cost reduction can be attained. |
