PURPOSE:To form a slit for spring action on the sleeve of a friction joint in one cutting process. CONSTITUTION:The sleeve 20 of a fiction joint is vertically fixed on a placing table 26 with its collar portion 20a positioned downward. Cutting tools 30, 32 such as two milling cutters parallel to each other, fixed on a rotary shaft 28 parallel to the placing table 26, are arranged above the sleeve 20. The cutting tools 30, 32 are moved in the direction to intersect the sleeve 20 while being rotated from the position lower than that of an end surface 20b of the sleeve 20, so as to form four cut traces, namely, slits 22a to 22d on the tube wall 20c of the sleeve 20. As a result, the slit 22 is positioned on two parallel lines La, Lb where its parts 22a, 22b, 22c, and 22d opened to the end surface 20b of the tube wall 20c of the sleeve 20 pass the hollow part of the sleeve 20 on the vertical plane to the axial direction of the sleeve 20. Therefore, four slit parts can be formed by the one-way movement of a pair of cutting tools 30, 32, that is, the moving operation of one stroke. |
