A heatable domestic water tank has a cold-water supply pipe (9), which passes through the tank space (1) and opens into its lower region, and a hot-water draw-off pipe (10) which starts from its upper region. In order to prevent the temperature of the hot water which is drawn off, for example in the case of repeated tappings, exceeding a limit value and reaching an inadmissibly high level, there is provided a branch pipe (11) which branches off from the cold-water supply pipe (9) and opens into the upper region of the tank space (1) and in which there is arranged a valve (12) which is thermostatically controlled depending upon the temperature of the water stored in the upper tank region and opens in the event of a temperature limit value being exceeded.
