Process for directing obtaining high Cr content melt by melt redn. of Cr starting materials such as Cr ore pellets, etc. comprises using a furnace equipped with a bottom-blowing nozzle, a side-blowing nozzle, and a top-blowing nozzle, blowing an inert gas or the like through the bottom-blowing nozzle to form a projection on the molten metal surface, blowing an inert gas against the projection through the side-blowing nozzle to diffuse the molten metal into a Cr material-floating region in the slug for accelerating redn. of the Cr-contg. material with C contained in the molten metal, blowing O2 for decarburisation into the molten metal through the top-blowing lance, and blowing O2 for sec. combustion region mainly in slug, and strongly stirring slug by the side-blowing gas to give the heat produced by the sec. combustion to Cr ores with high efficiency, whilst keeping sec. combustion ratio at 0.3 or more for assuring the high sec. combustion. |
