The undermattress according to the invention comprises a frame over which are stretched slat-like support members (2), arranged in the manner of a grid, and resiliently supported in the region of their axial ends, at side rails (3, 4) of the frame, on supporting wires or supporting belts (14), via push-rods (5) which are movable substantially perpendicularly to the plane of the frame. The load acting on the individual push-rods is in turn transferred, via rocking levers (13) which are supported on an abutment surface at the side rail of the frame, to the supporting wire or the supporting belt, so that a precisely defined counter-force is produced as a function of the depth of penetration of the push-rods into the frame.
