A pneumatic tire including a tread (1) a pair of sidewalls (2), a pair of bead portions (3), a radial carcass (4) and at least two belt layers (7,8). A pair of two circumferential main grooves (9) continuously extend in the circumferential direction of the tread on opposite sides of the equatorial plane (X-X) of the tire. A portion of the tread located between the pair of circumferential main grooves (9) in an axially central zone (10) is constituted by an inner rubber layer (12) located on the radially inner side and outer rubber layer (13) located on the radially outer side. The inner rubber layer (12) is made of a foamed rubber having rubber characteristics different from those of the outer rubber layer (13). A radially outer peripheral surface of the inner rubber layer (12) is so located that a thickness (t1) of the inner rubber layer as measured radially outwardly from the bottom of the circumferential main groove (9) is not more than 70 % of the depth of the circumferential main groove but not less than 2 mm. <IMAGE> |
