The grating comprises parallel hollow bars (3a-e) containing bending detectors (9-12). Each detector consists of a switch (9) inside the respective bar, which is weakened (5a,5c) at a point nearby. This can be done by forming opposite notches in the bar, or cutting it through, and ornamental sleeves (17) can be fitted over the bars at the weakened points. Other sensors can also be provided, detecting when the bars are cut through, and typically formed by indicator wires passing through the bars.
