Proposed is an electric motor or generator, preferably a three-phase generator for motor vehicles, with a housing (4), a rotor (13) rotatably mounted inside the housing, at least one fan (32) secured to the rotor, and a rectifier unit (44) mounted inside the housing. The air flow produced by the fan essentially cools the circuit components of the rectifier unit. The circuit components are embedded in heat sinks (102, 104) which are mounted inside the housing together with a support body (100). To ensure optimum cooling of the circuit components, the invention calls for the outer edge (106) of the support body (100) to abut the inside wall (94) of the housing (4). Thus the flow of cooling air (122) is initially directed radially outwards across the outer surfaces of the heat sinks (102, 104), then longitudinally round the edges of the heat sinks and on between the support body (100) and the heat sinks in a direction running radially inwards across the inner faces of the heat sinks. |
