Knee prosthesis for inner or outer lateral fitting

The prosthesis consists of a femoral condyle element (1) and a tibial plate (3) which are fitted to sections of the corresponding bones and have surfaces close to the natural anatomical ones. The plate is fitted to a base (6) which has a tubular projection (5) on its underside for a fixing screw (12).The plate's projection is set at an angle of some 30 degrees to a line perpendicular to the surface of the base, so that it is inclined from front to rear when fitted. The base is made from a high-strength material such as titanium, and the plate of a synthetic material such as polyethylene and shaped to fit inside a rim (14) round the edge of the base, e.g. with a retaining clip.
