This is a device for fastening the edge (7) of the cover (6) covering the cushion of a seat back (5) to the outer flange of a channel (4) open towards the rear and bordering a plate (3) which forms part of the reinforcement of the said cushion, comprising a J section (9) attached along the said cover edge. The said flange is on the one hand extended externally by a lateral channel section (10, 11) which is open in the opposite direction from the channel and, on the other hand, hollowed out by a series of slots (12) making it possible to form the same number of plunged (embossed) tabs (13) extending parallel to the overall plane of the plate towards the inside of the channel, and the section comprises a J-shaped head and a leg (14) extending the long side of the J at a right angle and bordered by a lateral heel (16) so that during fastening, the head straddles the series of plunged tabs while the foot with its heel straddles the outer flange (11) of the channel section, so that it touches them. <IMAGE>
