Apart from the light exit surface, housings for street lamps mostly have a closed ballast chamber which accommodates electrical components required for operating the lamp. The ballast chamber is accessible for maintenance work via an instrument plate which can be folded down and can be locked in a closed position by means of appropriate spring locks (3). The spring locks (3) are constructed in each case as a one-piece leaf-spring element (3a), which is bent into the shape of a V and can be inserted in a self-retaining fashion without further fastening means and incapable of being lost into a housing pocket (2b) formed in the instrument plate (2). The leaf-spring element (3a) provided between its two limbs (3b, 3d) with a rounded head (3c) is inserted with pretension into the housing pocket (2b), which is exactly matched in shape to the head (3c) and to a limb (3b), and locked in said pocket in a self-securing fashion behind a housing step (2b).
