Derivs. of N-acyl amino deoxy alditol of formula (I) R<1>-N(R<2>)-CH2-(CHOH)n-CH2OH are used in cosmetic and/or dermopharmaceutical compsns. R<1> = acyl gp. from a 16-26C fatty acid with at least 1 C=C bond; R<2> = H or 1-4C alkyl (pref. H or Me); n = 1-5 (4). Pref. the fatty acid is palmitoleic, oleic, linoleic, linolenic, eicosapentaenoic, docosahexaenoic acid, their isomers or mixts. The compsn. is pref. a water-in-oil or oil-in-water emulsion, or a dispersion of lipid droplets, and contains 0.5-20 (2-10) wt.% of (I) and a cosmetic or dermopharmaceutical additive. It contains oils, waxes, fatty alcohol ethoxylates, polyglycerol alkyl ethers, solvents, thickeners, moisturisers, softeners, dyes, preservatives, perfumes and propellants.
