Yarn processing machinery comprises at least one sensor (12, 17) mounted on the machinery to detect a breakage in the yarn (5) and at least one accumulator (6, 9) located sequentially in the machinery which accumulates yarn (5) passing through the machinery. A control device (24), in response to an output signal received from the sensor (12, 17) indicative of a yarn breakage, reduces the operating speed of the machinery before or after the accumulator (6, 9). The machinery may comprise a stuffer box (4), coiler (7), heat setter (8) and winder (11). A signal from sensor (12) causes slowing of units (7, 8, 11) to enable mending of the broken yarn while the store in accumulator (6) is being used up. A signal from sensor (17) causes slowing of units (4, 7, 8) while these continue to supply accumulator (9) at reduced rate. The accumulator (6) comprises a conveyor with a chicane arrangement for restoring kinks in the yarn. <IMAGE> |
