PURPOSE:To provide an ink jet recording apparatus having a keeping box capable of keeping an ink jet cartridge detached for the purpose of replacement without leaking ink and constituted so as to perform recovery operation by the operation at the time of the taking-out of the cartridge. CONSTITUTION:An ink jet recording apparatus has a keeping box 10 consisting of a receiving case 11 and a case lid 12 and a cap 20 and pumping means 14-19 are provided in the case 11 and the pumping means are operated in connection with the opening and closing operation of the case lid 12.
