PURPOSE:To set the maneuverability of a vehicle properly in relation to operation technique by judging the operation technique of the vehicle of a driver and, based on the results, controlling the maneuverability of the vehicle. CONSTITUTION:In a vehicle control device to decelerate a vehicle automatically when a lateral acceleration GY of the vehicle is larger than a turning limit value GLMT, the level of operation technique of an operator is judged from a variation speed DELTAtheta of a steering wheel steer angle 8 and a variation speed DELTAGY of the lateral acceleration GY (S1, 2, 3) and, when the operation technique is judged to be high, the turning limit value GLMT is set to a large set value GHI and, when it is judged to be low, it is set to a low set value GLO (S5). The more the operation technique is lower, the more the vehicle is decelerated automatically under a small lateral acceleration of GY. Thus the stability of the vehicle can be increased. |
