The tube is sealed by means of a sealing layer (11) with the aid of casings (13, 14) of memory plastics which clamps with sealing layer between them. The one casing (13) is shrunk firmly onto the tube (12) by being heated and the other casing (14) is pushed against the shrunken casing. The second casing commences to be heated at the end turned away from the sealing layer and is then simultaneously axially expanded as its shrinks tangentially. In this way, a clamping force is obtained between the casings.
