PACKING METHOD FOR FIBER

PURPOSE:To provide a method for uniformly packing fibers into a packing chamber at a high density. CONSTITUTION:After continuous fibers (e.g. molecular sieve carbon fibers: 1.2g/cm<3> apparent density) are immersed in water and are wetted therewith, the fibers are cut to a prescribed length by a cutter. A half-split type jig 7 having a cylindrical cavity is prepd. The continuous fibers are arrayed in the axial line direction of half molds and are packed into the respective cavities of the half molds. A pair of the half molds are disposed to face each other and are fastened by a band 8 to form a fiber bundle 6 in the jig 7. The fiber bundle 6 is press fitted in its axial direction into the packing chamber 9 from the jig 7 after drying of the fibers 6. High packing of the fibers to 71 to >=82% volumetric rate in the packing chamber is possible.
