MOLDED CATALYST FOR SYNTHESIZING UNSATURATED CARBOXYLIC ACID AND ITS USE

PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst having a noval shape which advantageously produces unsatd. carboxylic acid by vapor phase contact oxidation from an unsated. aldehyde. CONSTITUTION:This molded solid catalyst has a cylindrical shape form having a through-hole. This cylinder has the shape which has plural longitudinal groove- shaped parts extending radially from its outer cicumferential part and is larger in the max. width of the projecting parts made between these groove-shaped parts than the max. width of the groove-shaped part. Then, the catalyst has an effect on enhancing its activity by increasing the outside surface area of the catalyst and enhancing the selectivity of a desired object by lowering the pressure drop through a reaction system.
