PURPOSE:To avoid the repetition of excessive recovery operation, in an ink jet recording apparatus, by judging whether the non-emission of ink is caused by the clogging of the nozzle of a head or the exhaustion of ink and applying a command for the replacement of the head or the empty state of an ink tank. CONSTITUTION:After the power supply of an ink jet recording apparatus is closed, the preparatory emission of ink is performed and, when no ink is emitted, the clogging of the nozzle of an ink head is judged to perform recovery operation and, when no ink is emitted by the preparatory emission of ink at the time of line feed on the way of printing, it is judged that no ink remains in an ink tank and a command for the replacement of the ink head or the empty state of the ink tank is issued. |
