PURPOSE: To provide a supplemental inflatable restraint system with a controllable current source having a detecting element, a switch device connected to the element and a squib connected to the device. CONSTITUTION: A detecting element 54, a switch device 110 and a detonator are connected in a series circuit between a power source and a ground. Deploy control circuits 36 to 52, 90 are coupled to the device 110 to forward bias the device allowing electric current to flow through the element 54, the device 110 and squib to deploy a supplemental inflatable restraint. A current control circuit 84 is coupled to the element and the device 110 and responds to the current flow through the element 54 and regulates the device 110, effectively limiting current through the series circuit to a predetermined value. |
