PURPOSE: To improve especially conical angle machining by a method wherein a wire guide is rotated around the periphery of a wire electrode in a device to advance a wire electrode, effecting electric discharge machining, through rotation of the wire guide at the periphery of the wire electrode. CONSTITUTION: A wire electrode 1 is rewound from a feed reel and conveyed toward a position Z below a device. Further, a DC source 2 receives a pulse from a machining source and feeds it to the wire electrode 1. Further, an open guide 3 consisting of a plurality of guide parts 3a and 3b is rotated in a position situated downstream from the DC source 2. When cutting is applied on a workpiece at a prescribed angleαwith a rotary axis, namely when conical angle cutting is applied, in addition to movement of the open guide 3 within a U-V and/or X-Y plane to incline the wire electrode 1, the open guide 3 is rotated around the axis of rotation with the wire electrode 1 pressed against a notched base part.
