PURPOSE: To provide a triangular indexable cutting insert for grooving operation to improve both metal machining workability and accessibility to a machining groove, and capable of reducing the quantity of a hard materiel required for cutting corner. CONSTITUTION: This cutting insert comprises symmetrical or asymmetrical extension parts 17, 18, and 19 of which a cutting corner extending outwardly of an approximate body; a cutting edge 20 joining with both side edges 21 and 22. Each extension part comprises side edges 21 and 22 converging in a grooving direction I; and a cutting edge 20 joining with the two side edges and the upper surfaces 23 and 24 of the extension part consists of the rake surface of the cutting edge 20. The clearance surface 28 of the cutting edge is extended in the direction of thickness throughout height h2 equivalent to 30-50% of the total thickness h1 of the insert. |
