METHOD FOR SUPPRESSING FLICKER

PURPOSE:To improve the efficiency of voltage fluctuation suppression in an electric power system to supply power to a load which consumes reactive power by installing a thyristor phase controlled reactor, phase advancer capacitance and self-excited power converter in parallel in a bus connecting power supply and load. CONSTITUTION:A control circuit 30 detects opposite phase currents and harmonic currents from among currents and voltages detected by a current transformer 8 and transformer 5 for voltage detection. A self-excited power converter 20 compensates the harmonic or opposite phase currents which cause flicker voltage. Then a thyristor phase controlled reactor 2 compensates fluctuations in power after the compensation by the self-excited power converter 20. This improves the efficiency of flicker suppression.
