A mixt., for road coverings, comprises: (a) 25-35 wt.% chippings of 4-12mm size; (b) 25-35 wt.% chippings of 2-7mm size; (c) 30-50 wt.% sand of 0.09-3mm size; (d) 5-7 wt.% binder in the form of bitumen; and (e) 2-6 wt.% filler of 0.03-0.09mm size, comprising an electric steelmaking filter dust of compsn. (by wt.) 25-55% Fe2O3, 1-3% SiO2, 0.3-0.7% Al2O3, 2.0-3.5% MgO, 5-7% MnO, 0.1-0.2% P2O5, 0.5-0.7% Na2O, 0.5-0.7% K2O, 5-7% CaO, 0.8-1.1% Pb, 13-17% Zn, 0.02-0.04% Ni, 0.02-0.04% Ti, 0.4-0.6% Ce and 0.4-0.6% Cr.Up to half the filter dust amount may be replaced by a mixt. of (by wt.) 10% blast furnace slag, 40-50% marl (CaCO3+SiO2) and 40-50% limestone powder.
