PURPOSE:To automatically generate an index document wherein plural optionally specified index words and corresponding pages in the document by the index words are paired by providing a display control means which displays an index document, generated by an index document generating means, on a display means. CONSTITUTION:A page quantity control register 21 controls the number of pages of a prepared document and sends its output data to a document memory 18, a table-of-contents index memory 19, and an index memory 20. Further, an external storage device 22 is connected to the memory 18 and contents written mutually in the data table-of-contents memory 19 and index memory 20 are sent to and stored in the document memory 18. Further, the external storage device 22 is connected to the document memory 18 and data are mutually read and written between them. This constitution stores and displays the generated index document in document data storage format as well as other documents. |
