PURPOSE:To provide a highly reliable wavelength converter being employed in a wavelength multiplexing system or the like in which temperature control is facilitated while shortening the switching time. CONSTITUTION:The wavelength converter comprises a circuit 10 for branching an input signal into (m) series (m is a natural number of 2 or above) of branch input signals, a light emitting element 20 monolithically integrating (m) semiconductor lasers 21 having different oscillation wavelengths, an optical multiplexer 40 for multiplexing signal lights from respective semiconductor lasers 21, and (m) optical shutters 31 for turning signal lights, delivered from respective semiconductor lasers 21 to the optical multiplexer 40, ON/OFF based on a control signal. |
