PURPOSE:To increase a battery capacity, and improve storage characteristics and cycle characteristics by using cokes in which reactivity of oxygen including functional groups and active spots is restricted as negative electrode material. CONSTITUTION:In a nonaqueous secondary battery, cokes in which alkaline metal or soil metal is connected to oxygen including functional groups and active spots for restricting their reactivity is used as negative electrode material. For connecting the alkaline metal or soil metal to the oxygen including functional groups and active spots, cokes are immersed in solution of alkali or alkali salt dissolved in solvent, or fused matter of these.
