PURPOSE:To provide a character output device which can register expanded data of a character code requested to be printed or displayed in a frame buffer at a high speed when the character code is an idiom of KANJI (Chinese character). CONSTITUTION:When a character code of KANJI is inputted from a computer 1, an idiom control part 10 reads candidates for idioms out of a KANJI idiom dictionary 9 and registers them in an entry table 11. It is judged whether or not the candidates registered in the entry table 11 are registered in a font cache 5 and registered candidates are linked to the font cache 5. Unregistered candidates, on the other hand, are expanded by a 2nd expanding means and the expanded data are registered in an image registration part 13. When a character code of a 2nd character is inputted from the computer 1, the entry table 11 is retrieved and when its candidate is present in the entry table 11, the linked expanded data are copied to the frame buffer 8. |
