WATER-SOLUBLE CONDENSATION PRODUCTS OF COMPOUNDS CONTAINING AMINO GROUPS WITH CROSS-LINKING AGENTS, METHOD OF PREPARING THEM AND THEIR USE

Described are water-soluble condensation products of compounds containing amino groups with cross-linking agents, the condensation products being obtained by reacting (a) polyalkylene polyamines, polyamidoamines, polyamidoamines to which ethylenimine has been grafted, polyetheramines and mixtures of these compounds; (b) monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids, the salts, esters, amides or nitriles of monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acids, chlorocarboxylic acids and/or glycidyl compounds such as glycidic acid, glycidylamide or glycidic-acid esters and (c) at least bifunctional cross-linking agents with, as the cross-linking group, a halohydrin, glycidyl, aziridine or isocyanate unit or a halogen atom, to give water-soluble condensation products with a viscosity, measured in 20 % by wt. aqueous solution at 20 DEG C, of at least 100 mPas. Also described are a method of preparing the water-soluble condensation products by reacting the above compounds of groups (a), (b) and (c) as well as the use of the condensation products as water-removal, flocculation and retention agents in the manufacture of paper.
