QUATERNARY FATTY-ACID TRIETHANOLAMINE ESTER SALTS

Described are quaternary fatty-acid triethanolamine ester salts of formula (I) in which R1CO is an acyl group with 6 to 22 carbon atoms; R<2> and R<3>, independently of each other, are hydrogen or R<1>CO; n is a number from 1 to 10; x, y and z are 1 or a number from 2 to 30 and X is a long-chain alkyl and/or dialkyl phosphate. Such salts are prepared by esterifying fatty acids with triethanolamine or triethanolamine ethoxylates and subsequently quaternarizing with ethylene oxide in the presence of phosphoric-acid mono/diesters. The products are readily biodegradable and suitable for use as anti-static lubricating and avivaging agents for synthetic fibres.
