TURBO-PUMP FOR CONVEYING HIGHLY VISCOUS SUBSTANCES

A turbo-pump for pumping a highly viscous fluid, especially heavy hydrocarbons or petroleum, comprising a pump (7) with an inlet (8) and an outlet (9) and a turbine (5) having an inlet (6) and an outlet (4) different from those of the pump and secured to the same shaft as the pump, in which a vehicle fluid having a lower viscosity than that of the fluid which is miscible therewith is fed under pressure to the inlet (6) of the turbine (5). A part of the partially under low surface tension vehicle fluid coming from the turbine (5) is mixed as a solvent with the fluid in a chamber (11) before entering the pump and thus the viscosity of the mixture is reduced. The mixture of solvent and fluid is sucked from the inlet (8) of the pump (7). An improvement is made to the conveying properties in that the solvent is fed into the chamber (11) with a radial and a tangential component to generate an angular momentum.
