Vehicle air cleaner assembly comprises housing (20) having air inlet (22) connected to duct (24) through which atmos. air is introduced and an air outlet (28) connected to an intake hose (26) for supplying air to a combustion chamber. A filter element (30) is slidably mounted in a slot (38) in the housing to filter impurity within the air, guide ribs (40) facilitating its entry.The filter element is designed to be orthogonal to the airflowing direction or inclined downward with respect to that direction. The housing is sepd. into a dirt air area and a purge air area by the filter element, the lower part of the dirt area being larger than its upper part. The filter element has a handle (46) on its upper side. A rubber (48) is attached to the inside of the slot of the housing to mate with an edge portion of the filter element. The housing may have a sloping slot for the filter element.
