The suspension is introduced into a device for separating suspensions of finely divided solid-phase material; the suspension separates out under the influence of centrifugal forces in the rotor (1) into a sediment (16) and a centrifugate (17) which is drawn off from the sedimentation area (5) by a device (3) mounted on the radius of the overflow (R1). The sediment (16) from the sedimentation area (5) is evacuated by a worm conveyor (4) into the centrifuging area (6) in the form of a slot (13) between on the one hand the outer surface of the cowling (11) covering the disk (12) which delimits the centrifuging area (6) and is mounted on the cowling (8) of the worm conveyor (4), and on the other the inner surface of the rotor (1); it completely fills the inter-turn space of the helix (14) (the selected height of which is less than that of the helix (10) in the sedimentation area (5)) which is fixed to the outer surface of the cowling (11). The sediment (16) concentrated in the centrifuging area (6) is drawn off from the centrifuging area (6) by the helix (14) into the dehydration area (7) where, as a result of the back pressure created by the differences in the levels of the liquid phases in the sedimentation area (5) and in the dehydration area (7), liquid is removed from the concentrated sediment (16) which reaches the outlets (2) situated on a radius (R2) which is shorter than the radius of the overflow (R1); the liquid phase passes through the centrifuging area (6) and reaches the sedimentation area (5).
