The beam, for use in a frame, comprises lengthwise planks (2, 3), and a reinforcing member (4) parallel to them, increasing resistance to bending loads. The planks are glued together along lengthwise split joints (6), and the reinforcing member (4) is countersunk and clamped in a lengthwise recess (7) formed in the side of a plank.The reinforcing member can fit and be clamped between the teeth of the joint. It can be formed by a flexible rope gripped between the crown of one tooth and a groove between two teeth.
