The following description sets forth some oligosaccharides having biological activity and the procedure for the preparation of same from glycosaminoglycans, which may also be supersulphated, in particular from chondroitins, dermatans and mixtures of glycosaminoglycans having various compositions, by .beta.-elimination reactions in organic solvents or, in case of supersulphated glycosaminoglycans, also in aqueous solvents, through a process including or not including the isolation of esterified intermediate.
