beta-Cyanoalkylsilanes of formula (I) are prepd. by contacting a mixt. of trichlorosilane and an olefinic nitrile of formula YCH=C(Y)CN (II) with a phosphinoaliphatic silane catalyst of formula R3SiR2PR3(2) (III) at 80-300 deg.C. In formulae, R is halogen, opt. substd. monovalent hydrocarbon, alkoxy or aryloxy; R2 is 1-20C unsubstd. bivalent hydrocarbon; R3 is 1-20C monovalent hydrocarbon; and Y is H or 1-8C alkyl. |
