<p>(A) Metals are dissolved from rocks, sludges, liq. deposits or ashes using a water/solvent mixt. by (a) forming the metal-contg. material to a pulp consistency and mixing with water and opt. a lubricant; (b) directing a high pressure jet or water/solvent mixt. against the mixt. held under pressure, so that the mixt. is fully wetted by the jet; (c) subjecting the jet and the mixt. to intimate turbulence; and (d) passing the treated prod. through a sieve which allows passage of liq. contg. the dissolved metals. (B) Appts. for carrying out the process has (i) a housing (10) with a turbulation chamber (12) having a pocket-like bulging cavity (14), one or more feed channels (16) connected to the chamber (12) at a point opposite the cavity (14), and a discharge opening (20) in the chamber (12) at right angles to the feed channel (16) at the other end of the chamber; (ii) a high pressure pump (26) for feeding the water/solvent mixt. at high pressure into the feed channel (16); and (iii) one or more inlet channels (28,30) associated with a high pressure pump (36) for supplying the metal-contg. material under pressure.</p> |
