The method prevents loading failure and damage of magnetic tape of VCR by loading the tape after the reaching of the head drum speed to a reference speed. The method comprises the four steps of: (A) driving the drum motor by sending reference speed signal and drum drive signal to drum motor drive, and detecting the angular speed of the drum by measuring the frequency of FG signal, (B) comparing the measured speed with the reference speed, (C) permiting to load of tape if the measured speed has reached to the reference speed, (D) stoping driving of the drum motor if the measured speed has not reached to the reference speed.
