The addition of an additional, annular electrode pair to a tubular piezo-electric element, results in an electro-mechanical transducer in which a displacement range in an x-direction and a y-direction is independent of the displacement in the longitudinal direction of the element. Because of the additional electrode pair, the element can be driven by using only two power supply sources.
