PREPARATION OF POLYCRYSTALLINE SILICON CARBIDE FIBER

摘要

PURPOSE: To obtain the silicon fibers which maintain their strength at a high temp. by heating ceramic fibers contg. silicon and carbon in an environment contg. a volatile sintering aid to a sufficient temp. CONSTITUTION: Ceramic fibers contg. silicon and carbon are heated in an environment contg. a volatile sintering aid (such as boron and aluminum) to a temp. sufficient to convert them into the polycrystalline silicon carbide fibers. There are obtained fibers having useful tensile strength and high elastic modulus even after aged at a high temp. (such as above 1600 deg.C).
