PURPOSE:To prevent cracking at the interface between a quartz-based supporting member and soot by depositing the soot on the supporting member with a protruding part, dehydrating the soot and converting it into transparent glass. CONSTITUTION:A plastic material 21 consisting of silica powder having <=200mum particle diameter, a binder and water is molded by vacuum extrusion molding on the outside of a supporting rod 20 of a quartz-based material with a flange at the top and the material 21 is dewaxed at about 500 deg.C and sintered at 1,000-1,500 deg.C to obtain a quartz-based supporting member with a protruding part 21 having plural protrusions 22. Soot is deposited on this supporting member, dehydrated and converted into a transparent glass. |
