PURPOSE:To produce an optical fiber porous preform for the eccentriccore optical fiber, polarization plane preserving optical fiber, etc., in a good yield without causing distortion, nonuniform density and displacement of the core. CONSTITUTION:An extrusion head having a core glass rod passage 11 and a plastic material passage 15 provided around the core glass rod passage are prepared. A plastic material is supplied around the core glass rod inserted into the glass rod passage, hence the core glass rod and the plastic material are integrated to obtain the formed body, and an optical fiber porous preform is produced. The head is set in an extruder so that the plastic material is extruded in parallel with the axis of the screw. |
